RE: Savannah GA campground recommendations? any?

We stayed at Savannah Oaks for a week in July and they do have some paved sites. We had one. It is ok and staff is nice. It was clean and 15 minutes from downtown. I had two complaints and they were small, 1. The cable wasn't very good, ok but not great and, 2. There are speed bumps on the highway right outside the CG that make a loud sound when people pass anywhere close. We just left the fan running on our AC all the time and soon forgot about it. The good things were the WIFI was the best we have had in a long time, plenty of room for our big rig, our dogs were welcome, it was clean, and other than the speed breakers the CG was quiet. We'd stay again.

RE: unhitching problems

Always back up slightly with the trailer brakes held on to take the pressure off the jaws. They are designed to lock into place with pressure on them to prevent loosing the trailer.

RE: Need Info re Hurricanes

As others have said don't let it bother you. I promise, if one is coming your way you will know with plenty of time to leave.

RE: Storing 50A detachable cord

Ours has a "U" shaped hanger in the basement that it hangs on.

RE: Biltmore RV Park Savannah GA

Nope but we spent a week at Savannah Oaks over the 4th of July and it was fine. Just ask for a paved site if you decide to try it. They are mostly pull through. Wifi is good but the cable is bad.

RE: Campgrounds in or near St. Augustine FL

Yup cabanaman you are right but we had some requirements and that's where we ended up. Had to have wifi, cable, allow two BIG dogs and we have a 39'6" 5ver that won't fit everywhere. In retrospect I probably would have looked a little more but that's life. As far as $4.00 for diesel....know where I can get a truck load....it's $4.79 here. LOL

RE: Campgrounds in or near St. Augustine FL

We stayed at the KOA in St. Augustine in Feb and it was ok. A little pricy at $80.00 a night if I remember but ok.

RE: Camper Grill

We have the RVQ and have no problems with it. It came with a storage bag. I keep a can of oven cleaner on hand and spray it down, wait a while and wash it off. let it dry and back in the bag. Cooks fine for us and we grill on it all the time.

RE: How about Alabama?

Those are ok but we prefer Anchors Aweigh. It's right at the outlet malls. 15 minutes from the beach. Headed there Friday for the weekend as a matter of fact. We have stayed at Gulf Breeze also ant it was fine. Where-ever you stay get reservations early as they all fill up that time of year. We go down every other weekend.

RE: CHEVY SHORTBED/SLIDER HITCH

Sorry to disagree but I wouldn't pull with that truck without a slider. Am I correct in reading that bed is the real short one since the normal short bed is 78"? I didn't know they put that bed on that truck. If so I really don't know if I'd pull with it at all. That puts the cap of the 5ver 10 inches closer to the cab of the truck and you'd have to really pay attention when making turns. If that is right you also might need to check out the 5th Airborne sidewinder pin box if it doesn't void your 5ver warranty. I have a 2006 2500HD 6'6" bed and use my slider regularly. Just my opinion.

RE: opinions of campground ownership

I agree that you need to look at his profit and loss sheet. That will tell you if you can make it work. The DW and I have been looking for an area to build an RV resort and can't find the right place. Personally I would be apprehensive about the one you described. We have been working with a professional consultant and his first rule is to have something to attract campers. It sounds to me like the only one that this place has is solitude. That might be fine for snowbirds if it's far enough south but what will you do the remainder of the year? His advice it to attract baby boomers if you want to succeed.

RE: Water World -- Lessons Learned

Yes good advice. I never thought about turning off the city water until our last trip. When we hooked to the city water the pressure was very low so in order to even take a shower I took the regulator off. The pressure was fine and not excessive. Two nights later while we were watching TV there was a small burst sound and a hissing noise. When I checked, the supply line from the hot water heater had sprung a small leak. It put enough water down to wet the carpet before I could turn it off but what concerned me more was that the water was spraying directly on two electrical junction boxes under the counter. I fixed the leak but then began to think about what might have happened if we had been gone. I guess you never know.

RE: Slider Hitch??

No doubt about it. Get a slider. I have a 2006 2500 HD and the same short bed as you. I don't need it all the time but I do need it EVERY time I back into my driveway.

RE: Water in RV

We never do anything except retract the slide and have never had a problem. Come to think of it though, I can see how it could get in.

RE: pine mountain

I agree. September is not quiet late enough for it to be much cooler there. I live about 70 miles from there also and it probably will be in the low 90's during the day. To get much cooler as others have said go to the N. Ga mountains or even Gattlinburg.

RE: Wind, Beach. Awning

We were there over Memorial day weekend and a straight line wind got 20 awnings in the park along with ours. We put it in now everytime we leave the park.

RE: Savannah Oaks RV resort reviews

We just stayed there over the 4th of July week and it wasn't bad. The staff must have changed because they were very pleasant. The park was clean and neat. It was quiet other than as ruth anne b said, the alert noise bars in the highway. They are on each side and in the center of the roadway so you hear them everytime someone passes another car anywhere close. We just left the fan on the AC running all the time and soon forgot about it. We had a paved parking pad and never had anyone closer than two spots from us. Whe wifi was the best and fastest we have had in a long time but the cable was not the best. There's not much to choose from in that area and we would stay there again. If we were going somewhere in that general area for 6 months we'd go to Charlestown SC instead.

RE: help

Steve, I saw a Toyota Tundra towing a small 5ver, maybe 22 ft, the other day and it looked fine. If the pin weight is within the limits and the gross weight is within the limits you can do it. It all depends on the numbers on the truck and the 5ver. I don't know of any off the top of my head but there may be some out there. Just do your research. I will say that the last 1/2 ton truck I had is the last one I will ever have.

RE: serge protectors

Not only a surge protector but also a pressure regulator on the water supply. never without.
